Greek Masterpieces

What a long day I had today... After having an intensive day, finally I can sit down to share something interesting with you guys...

I had visited The National Museum of Singapore this afternoon with Regina. We went there for the exhibition on the Greek Masterpiece. Just for your information, those exhibition masterpieces are part of the collection of Louvre. In other words, you need to spend thousands of dollars travel to France to check the same thing that I've seen for $4 if you miss this opportunity.

The interior of the museum is simply majestic. I don't really know how to describe how it looks exactly as my English is kinda poor but trust me you'll love it. Its a very well furnished and illuminate space with very strong British architecture influence, not to mention all those high-tech gadget they install there.

Even the ticket is with bar code... You need to swap the card in order to enter the exhibition ground... I wonder when can we have that in National Museum of Malaysia...

Well, I did try to take a few pictures. But due to the fact that I doesn't own a digicam and my mobile phone's poor camera quality, I'm only able to take a few snaps of those. Do bear with me though.

By the way, if you guys really can't bear with the pictures quality, please take immediate action - either sponsor me a new phone with better camera functionality or a digicam. Thanks a million ya!

This piece of art work shows Gaia handling Erichthonius, the baby over to Athena. The baby was born when Athena wiped off the semen on her thigh with a wool and throw it on the earth. The semen is left by Hephaestus when he tries to rape Athena.

I can't remember what's this except the fact that it shows 3 guys.. : P

This is a mother and son...

This art piece shows an aristocrat on the war horse. Only those rich aristocrat can afford a war horse during battle. The weapons and provision of the soldiers are proportional to their financial status. Interesting...

This is a sculpture for a dead baby. In ancient Greek, the mortality rate of babies within 10 days after born is high, thus babies are only given a name after 10 days.
This is the Goddess of Victory, Nike ( pronounce as nee kei)

This one here is kinda blur but I really like it. It is young Eros, the God of Love. He is called as cupid by the Romans. He is the son of Aphrodite. He has a pair of little wings on his back and always carrying a bow. This piece of art work looks perfect from all angle. Simply brilliant.

Shown here is Ares, a god like love warfare and blood lust.

The following pieces belongs to Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love.
Aphrodite always has a ring on her left arm and holds an apple.

Aphrodite just came out after bath. You can see as if one layer of wet cloth (like translucent) covering her body and slightly showing the skin below.. Really a master piece.

This is one of the most well preserve piece... The head of Aphrodite. Also one of the piece I really like..

Can you guess whats this? Haha... This is called strigil and it has an interesting function. The Greeks likes to be naked during their sports competition and before any competition they will apply perfume to their body and rub it with sand. Then they will use this strigil to scrap the sand off, collect it in a bottle and sell it! It was said that the scrap off has some medical properties. Lol...
Maybe we can make one and give Ong as next year's birthday present. Lol..

Thanks for hanging on so..... long with my bragging... Chills!!!

Ps. all the sculptures are made of real marbles...
