Photo Story #2

These 2 places share so much similarities yet so different : Ice Hotel Kiruna [Sweden], Wieliczka Salt Mine [Poland]

ICE-Hotel , Kiruna is the first such hotel to be built in the world. Situated in the nordic sweden village of Jukkasjarvi, the hotel only exists between December an April each year. You may ask, so where did it go in May to November ? As Strange as It may sound, it melts. As the whole Ice Hotel is built by Ice ( the chair, the bed, the reception table, the chandelier, everything) , it melts when summer comes and the temperature hits 5C and above.

As it is built anew each year, the IceHotel you will see in the future when you come to Sweden will not be the same as the one that I saw. Designers, artists and architects are brought in each year to give the IceHotel a theme, and some 32 of the rooms are designed by designers all around the world.

You may want to try to sleep in one of the room : 1300 ringgit for 2 person a night, you will be given a sleeping bag and sleep on top of a reindeer skin , where the room temperature range from below zero to 4 C. If a night in the Ice Room doesn't satisfy you thirst for novelty, you are welcomed to enjoy a cocktail in the ICE BAR (well, incidentally, it is made of ice) that's served in a , urr , well, u guessed it, ICE Glass.

Ask me whether did I lick the wall of the church. Yes I did. And Yes, It is Icy and tasteless. : )

Wieliczka Salt mine, Wieliczka :

One of the oldest salt mine in the world (2nd oldest), has been operating since 13th century. It has 9 levels underground, and it goes as deep as 327 meters ( a standing Petronas tower is 378 meters tall) and all the tunnels add up to a total of 300 KM , almost the distance from Johor to Kuala Lumpur. Interestingly but not surprisingly, everything inside the salt mine is made of salt, rock salt as they call it, or crystal salt.

Statues, Sculptures, the floor, the ceiling, the chandelier, everthing are made of salt. The picture above is the cathedral underground, still being used for services and worshiping. Not only there are numerous cathedrals underground that are carved out by rock salt, it even has a lake underground.

Ask me whether did I lick the wall of the church. Yes I did. And Yes, It is salty. : )

This is one of the 12 original UNESCO World Heritage Sites when the list started in 1978. It is worth a visit if you ever have the chance to visit Poland.

Photo Story #1

I'll be writing these stories based on what I've seen, heard and learnt during my travel. All that of which the story is told may not reflect the truth, the fact, or the actual situation/circumstances as I've learn/heard/Seen.

A Trabant (I hope I'm correct) as seen in Budapest, Hungary

Trabant, manufactured by East German automaker VEB, is seen as one of the few symbolic 'artifacts' of the communist era in the old Communist Bloc. Surprisingly, this car poses stark similarity with that "little yellow car' owned by Boey. The emphasis of 'everything-being-equal' by the communist government and its effort in cutting down cost so that everyone will be able to own a car leads to the car's simplistic design. Even simpler is its functionality, 2 cylinders, 26 Horse power and a dreadful 21 seconds to go from 0 - 100 KM/hour (perhaps Ivan's Kancil can do better? ) .

The guide of my tour, who incidentally grew up in that era, shared his love and hate of the car. It was the era ( 1970s, before Poland , among the first of the communist bloc to ditch communism), that everyone only allow to drive one such car. No import of other cars were possible, and it was a funny wait of 5-6 years after you first ordered and paid for the car before you will get it. ( Wikipedia says usual waiting time is 15 years !) He lovingly recalled the moment when this car arrived at his doorstep, and how his family of 4 would just squeezed into this tiny little car and go around. He went on to praise the lifespan of the car , which is a staggering 30 years before it will fail you like the 7 years old proton, amazing, isn't it ?

Iron Curtain, Artwork found on the street of Budapest

Iron curtain, refer to the ideological and physical boundary that separates Europe into two after WWII. To put it simply, the democratic, independence, UN-led west and the Russia-Soviet influenced communist east.

The carvings on this artwork says

"Shall we live as slaves or free men?" ,

"It isolated the East from the West" ,

"It Took Away Our Freedom" ,

"It Held us in Captivity and In Fear" ,

"If finally fell"

Traveling through central Europe, You can't help but notice the great influence of communism on its history, and how it leaves traces in the society and how people are adjusting out of it. Walking down a street in Budapest, you can almost notice the variety of architectural styles of adjacent buildings: gothic, neoclassic, baroque, and communist, etc. It's very interesting to note that communist buildings are the easiest to tell: They simply have no decorations on it, and the paint is always grey-ish , or, put it this way: you just have to pick the dullest buildings out of them and you'll most probably get a communist-designed building.

This is not as easy as i think~ wow~ the natural light is to hard to catch~ this is the only 2 which i personally satisfy after 300++ shooting... and yet still not close to those shot done by professional~ bahaha~ got time i will do again~

It is so damn challenge without external flash.big aperture.and micro lens~

I choose black and white shooting cos the exposure is too dark for such high speed shooting, kinda ugly with fade colour for me~ haha~ i some more add contrast in this 2 picture in PS~

Probably nothing interesting here, but just wanna share some thoughts and photos from my trip here in europe.

KLIA - UK

Before I start writing about UK, I must mention KLIA first. Having traveling around for the past 2 years, stepping my foot on different airports around the world, I must say KLIA is really one of the best airport I've been to so far. (To wee ser:the best part of KLIA has to be seen after the custom/security clearance .. so do go in next time n experience it). What's commendable is the facilities: free internet, lounge, shopping outlets, sleeping couch, TV lounge, nice and comfy waiting areas, clean toilets and all). Kudos to the airport and I sincerely hope they keep the standard for many years to come.

Emirates' Boeing 777 ( i have an obsession with aircrafts .. hehe )

My MH04 , well .. I seriously thought Boeing 747 is one of the best aircraft ever built ! it has double deck man .. how cool is that.. the aircraft itself is monstrous, very stable inflight experience and commendable cabin crew! (MAS is the best cabin crew of the world winner, not bad huh ~!)

Very, very big wingspan. It's a marvel of engineering ..

I actually don't think MAS's food was that good, considering my experience with EVA air (Taiwan airline) was very very good. Well , for the sake of the ferrero rocher given in MAS, i post this photo.. haha

Well, at least MAS didn't let the passenger gets hungry .. they stuffed us with never-ending food.. and the crew actually gave me 2 ice-creams .. lol

Now ... UK :

It's a shame that I couldn't spend more time in London, but since I only come here to transit , well .. UK gives me the feeling of Malaysia very much. The roads are the same (highway particularly) , and here and there you see Asians everywhere. Food/Transport etc are pretty expensive here, it cost me 100 ringgit to move from one airport to another ( Imagine paying 100 ringgit for a bus ride from KLIA to LCCT ). And oh, given the state of mind I was in that time ( rushing from one airport to the other ) , I didnt even care enough to take out the camera.. so the only photo I have for UK is this:

The tram connection terminal 5 to terminal 3 , i think ? London has 5-6 airports, and each of them are huge... Heathrow, the one I arrived, has 5 terminals, while Stansted airport, the one I depart to Denmark, has 100 departure gates... Oh and yeah , I saw AirAsia's counter in Stansted airport, and honestly, I suddenly feel proud of AirAsia .. haha.

There it goes, another flight, from UK to Denmark. This time taking Airbus-320 from EasyJet. Probably the best-maintained Airbus-320 I've ever took ( compared to AirAsia's or Tigers ).

Denmark - Copenhagen ... coming up ..

To be very honest, I didnt do much homework before I come to Copenhagen. It ended up my friend and I just zou ma kan hua without really appreciating what Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark has to offer.. such a shame... But nonetheless, Copenhagen is quite a vibrant city, even in winter time.

I call it the Coca-Cola Tower . lol

Strogat Street. The longest Pedestrian-only street in Europe ( I think ). It is 1 KM long and lined with interested shops, churches, historical buildings, and road performers.

My friend, who's studying in Sweden now and kind enough to pick me up at Copenhagen airport.

Found this to be interesting , 18th century painting... seems like the priest is the first to reach God/Jesus, and the king follows, while other mortals being lured away by the devils. Meanwhile, the angels on the top left hand corners look like the followers of buddha ( notice their heads, it looks like they are angry by the symbol ppl commonly used in comic to express anger. ) lol.

National Gallery of Denmark, one of the best museum I ever visited.

There's a performance going on. There's a band playing, and a guy half sing half recite poems and stories. Judging from the crowd's response, the performance was quite well-received. Well.. it was performed in Danish so I dont know what the heck they are singing about. lol

All my heartfelt thanks go to my friends who had kindly organized gatherings for me before I go to Poland .. this includes the maths gang, my boss, and my friendsss !

Tonight .. i feel like a little boy again ...

Oh , such is the feeling to have a crush on somebody ...

I went to a restaurant with my friends in Holland V just now .. we were served by a very very nice girl. She's so beautiful and radiant with affectionate smiles. She captivates me the moment i locked eyes on hers ! oh . Such is the feeling of love . haha

I tried to seize the opportunity to chat with her .. and oh my ! seriously. I never see a girl so nice.. she's shining with her positivity from inwards out ...

With some influence from da beers, (and the ascargot + baked mussels did help too), my friends had become the most steadiest people i've known ... I told them I feel like to take a photo with da girl .. and... when i asked the girl about it ( I've said that we all like to have a photo with her) and all my friends quickly told her I'm actually the one who wants the photo with her ! and...

My sincerest thanks to danny, kim chwee, and see hon for the opportunity .. lol

And, to my wildest imagination ...see hon did something bold. After we paid the bill, i was the first one to walk out of the restaurant .. but then ... seehon stay put and asked the girl for msn address !(well , again telling her that i want it .... ) .. and ...

now i have her msn which i dont know how should i use it !

Chinese New Year Party

Hi all, I think you all still have clear scene about the above photo...I believed that it was a memorable and unforgettable trip in our life. Let me get back to my topic, our respected BB officer and the leader of above photo Mr Mervyn Yong was once again invite all our Atlantiz gang to attend his Chinese New Year Party at his house, I think this is the 2nd time he invited all of us, as last invitation was his house warming party but unfortunately none of us attended it. I think we and also him already have a significant friendship in our heart so he is inviting us again although we have disappointing him in his house warming party. The party is on 20th of Feb, so I suggest that we could do the 大团拜on the same day also, so we could attend the party in full attendance as to show him some respect as he has taught us in some how or rather in the previous BB life.
So, everyone please consider with the party, and do let me know if you want to attend...Thx

Atlantizian, ATLANTIZ Needs A New T-Shirt!

Hi Atlantizian,

ATLANTIZ will become 10-year-old one month++ from today on XX/XX/2010. One way I want to celebrate this anniversary will be organizing a fun ATLAN-TEE design contest.

I think there are many talented and artistic people in ATLANTIZ, so I am asking you to show us your creativity and imagination by creating a new design that can be used for a new ATLANTIZ t-shirt. If there is enough interest, maybe we can also use the design for other things too.

However, we must see the design first!

Submitting Your Design

The design must be original and it must include the “ATLANTIZ” name.

It should be very cool, so everyone will want one.

Please submit/upload your design here. All designs must be received by 2009 December 20, Sunday 23:59.

Please also describe your design, and explain any limitations or recommendations for how your design should be used. For example, please tell us if your design can be on different colors or just some colors of T-shirt. This information may be used during the voting period so people can better understand your design and ideas. You may submit more than one design.

Voting For Your Favorite Design

ATLANTIZ visitors and members will be encouraged to view and comment on each design. I think this can be very fun and interesting if a lot of people submit designs (so please submit designs!). These votes will help determine which design is selected.

Winning Design

The winning design will be announced on 2009 December XX, XXXday. (During our Reunion Date)

The winning designer will receive a free t-shirt and, if there is enough interest, we can maybe provide bigger prize (etc: Free BBQ/Steamboat seat at Ong house). You can suggest reasonable prizes in the below comments for fun and we will consider them.

If you can make t-shirts or can recommend a good t-shirt making company, please contact me or Ong. I would like for this new ATLANTIZ t-shirt to be much cheaper than the original T-shirt from Stussy and CLOT (but of course also reasonable quality!).

Due to this year end 31st never hit the weekend and since half of the atlantiz start working de~~ we just decided to switch OUR aannual new year celebration to the 25th 26th 27th of Dec~

My design

Rationale :

1. Wanna emphasize our friendship that's as strong and as deep just like the anchor .

2. To supplement that, I've also included the year since we first called ourselve "atlantiz".

3. I think is good to have simple design , then we buy better cutting/design's shirt to print on it. Then we can have better looking , more comfortable and practical shirt to wear . ( No point print on sub quality shirt in which we are not going to wear them . )

Design objective : As simple as possible, and i'll like it to be more casual , less formal this year.

This happened yesterday.

I was expecting a parcel from Poland. The parcel did reach my house but it cannot be delivered without my presence. My mum didn't inform me of this and she only told me this last saturday. And so I urged her to help me to collect it on my behalf yesterday ( since post office is not open during weekend ). She called me yesterday night and told me that the parcel has been sent back to Poland and there's nothing she can do about it.

Well , I got pretty upset. i am in the middle of my preparation for my final exam and things didnt go very smoothly recently. I kind of expressed my discontent over the phone and grunted on how much easier it would be if she told me earlier about the parcel so that i can make arrangement to go back and claim the parcel. She apologized and sounded worried over the phone. I kinda ended the conversation like " OK lar , no choice, I will find a way to settle this. bye"

I went back to the table where I was studying before the call. I sat down and re-consider how I've behaved. Although I didn't explicitly blame my mum or use any harsh words, I didn't feel right about it. I'm afraid that she'll take the blame to herself and worry too much. I just couldn't concentrate on my studies anymore. After a few moments of thoughts, I left the study table and made a call back to my mum. I re-assured her that it is after all not a big problem and I could solve the problem fairly easy myself ( tho I have to admit things would be easier otherwise .... ) and told her not to worry about me. Then I started chatting casually with my mum just to cheer her up a little bit. To my surprised, I found out that she's not feeling well the whole day and yet she went to the post office to help me to ask for the parcel. I felt kinda ashamed of myself and I quickly comfort her as best as I could.

Indeed I felt a chill up my spines after the call. I'm so glad that I took the initiatives and made the call afterwards. After all, who am I to think that only I'm the one who has pressures and stress and problems ?

I read this in Jing Wen's blog, thought of sharing with all of you aspiring youngsters and dream chasers.

母親真的老了，變得孩子般纏人，每次打電話來，總是滿懷熱誠地問：「你什麼時候回家？」

且不說相隔一千多里路，要轉三次車，光是工作、孩子已經讓我分身無術，哪裡還抽得出時間回家。
母親的耳朵不好，我解釋了半天，她仍舊熱切地問：「你什麼時候能回來？」

幾次三番，我終於沒有了耐心，在電話裏衝母親大聲嚷嚷，她終於聽明白，默默掛了電話。

隔幾天，母親又問同樣的問題，只是那語調怯怯地，沒有了底氣。

像個不甘心的孩子，明知問了也是白問，可就是忍不住。
我心一軟，沉吟了一下。

母親見我沒有煩，立刻開心起來。她欣喜地向我描述：「後院的石榴都開花了，西瓜快熟了，你回來吧。」

我為難地說：「那麼忙，怎麼能請得上假呢！」
她急急地說：「你就說媽媽得了癌，只有半年的活頭了！」我立刻責怪她胡說，她呵呵地笑了。

小時候，每逢颳風下雨，我不想去上學，便裝肚子疼，被母親識破，挨了一頓好罵。
現在老了，她反而教著女兒說謊了，我又好氣又好笑。

這樣的問答不停地重複著，我終於不忍心，告訴她下個月一定回去，母親竟高興得哽咽起來。

可不知怎麼了，永遠都有忙不完的事，每件事都比回家重要，最後，到底沒能回去。

電話那頭的母親，仿佛沒有力氣再說一個字，我滿懷內疚：「媽，生氣了吧？」
母親這一回聽真了，她連忙說：「孩子，我沒有生你的氣，我知道你忙。」

可是沒幾天，母親的電話催得越發緊了。

她說，葡萄熟了，梨熟了，快回來吃吧。我說，有什麼稀罕，這裏滿大街都是，花個十元八元就能吃個夠。
母親不高興了，我又耐下性子來哄她：「不過，那些東西都是化肥和農藥餵大的，哪有你種的好呢。」母親得意地笑起來。

星期六那天，氣溫特別高，我不敢出門，開了空調在家裏呆著。孩子嚷嚷雪糕沒了，我只好下樓去超市買。
在暑氣蒸騰的街頭，我忽然就看見了母親的背影。

看樣子她剛下車，胳膊上挎著個籃子，背上背著沉甸甸的袋子，她彎著腰，左躲右閃著，怕別人碰了她的東西。
在擁擠的人流裏，母親每走一步都很吃力。

我大聲地叫她，她急急抬起滿是熱汗的臉，四處尋找，看見我走過來，竟驚喜地說不出話來。

一回到家，母親就喜滋滋地往外捧那些東西。她的手青筋暴露，十指上都纏著膠布，手背上有結了痂的血口子。
母親笑著對我說：「吃呀，你快吃呀，這全是我挑出來的。」

我這沒有出過遠門的母親，只為著我的一句話，便千里迢迢地趕了來。

她坐的是最便宜、沒有空調的客車，車上又熱又擠，但那些水靈靈的葡萄和梨子都完好無損。
我想像不出，她一路上是如何過來的，我只知道，在這世上，凡有母親的地方就有奇蹟。

母親只住了三天，她說我太辛苦，起早貪黑地上班，還要照顧孩子，她乾著急卻幫不上忙。
城裏的廚房設施，她一樣也不敢碰，生怕弄壞了。
她自己悄悄去訂了票，又悄悄地一個人走。

才回去一星期，母親又說想我了，不住地催我回家。我苦笑：「媽，你再耐心一些吧！」
第二天，我接到姨媽的電話：「你媽媽病了，你快回來吧。」
我急得眼前發黑，淚眼婆娑地奔到車站，趕上了最後一趟車。

一路上，我心裏不住地祈禱。
我希望這是母親騙我的，我希望她好好的。

我願意聽她的嘮叨，願意吃光她給我做的所有飯菜，願意經常抽空來看她。

此時，我才知道，人活到八十歲也是需要母親的。

車子終於到了村口，母親小跑著過來，滿臉的笑。
我抱住她，又想哭又想笑，嗔怪道：「你說什麼不好，說自己有病，虧你想得出！」
受了責備的母親，仍然無限地歡喜，她只是想看到我。

我毫不留情地批評：「紅豆粥煮糊了；水煎包子的皮太厚；滷肉味道太鹹。」

母親的笑容頓時變得尷尬，她無奈地搔著頭。
我心裏暗笑，我知道，一旦我說什麼東西好吃，母親非得逼我吃一大堆，走的時候還要帶上

就這樣，我被她餵得肥肥白白，怎麼都瘦不下去。而且，不貶低她，我怎麼有機會佔領灶台呢？

我給母親做飯，跟她聊天，母親長時間地凝視著我，眼裏滿是疼愛。

無論我說什麼，她都虔誠地半張著嘴，側著耳朵凝神地聽，就連午睡，她也坐在床邊，笑咪咪地看著我。

我說：「既然這麼疼我，為什麼不跟著我住呢？」她說住不慣城裏的高樓。

沒呆幾天，我就急著要回去，母親苦苦央求我再住一天。
她說，今早已託人到城裏買菜了，一會兒準能回來，她一定要好好給我做頓飯。
縣城離這兒九十多里路，母親要把所有她認為好吃的東西都弄回來，讓我吃下去，她才能心安。

從姨媽家回來的時候，母親精心準備的菜餚，終於端上了桌，我不禁驚詫──
魚鱗沒有刮盡、雞塊上是細密的雞毛、香油金針菇裏居然有頭髮絲。無論是葷的還是素的，都讓人無法下箸。
母親年輕時那麼愛乾淨，如今老了竟邋遢得這樣。母親見我挑來挑去就是不吃，她心疼地妥協了，送我去坐夜班車。

天很黑，母親挽著我的胳膊。她說，你走不慣鄉下的路。

她陪我上了車，不住地囑咐東囑咐西，車子都開了，才急著下去，衣角卻被車門夾住，險些摔倒。
我哽咽著，趴在車窗上大叫：「媽，媽，你小心些！」

她沒聽清楚，邊追著車跑邊喊：「孩子，我沒有生你的氣，我知道你忙！」

這一回，母親仿佛滿足了，她竟沒有再催過我回家，只是不斷地對我說些開心的事：

「家裏又添了隻很乖的小牛犢；明年開春，她要在院子裏種好多好多的花。」聽著聽著，我心裏一片溫暖。

到年底，我又接到姨媽的電話。她說：「你媽媽病了，快回來吧。」

我哪裡相信，我們前天才通的話，母親說自己很好，叫我不要掛念。

姨媽只是不住地催我，半信半疑的我還是回去了，並且買了一大袋母親愛吃的油糕。

車到村頭的時候，我伸長脖子張望著，母親沒來接我，我心裏忽地就有了種不祥的預感。

Indonesia's Earthquake

Argh. Tsunami, Volcano eruption, earthquake.

It is time like this I cant help but ask this question again.

They told me that God has all the plans for us. So, I'll assume that God knows this will happen. And he didnt stop it from happening. Should I be glad that God has chosen me as the one that watches this suffering, not the one who's suffering?

If he loves everyone as equal, then why should some suffer, while some just stand aside and watch !

Or , perhaps, there's no equality at all. Even god himself.

I pray for you, indonesians, especially to those people who're affected by this earthquake. I pray to the Very same God who allows this earthquake to happen.

How ironic.

Recycle ! Couple Shirt

I help my friend designed , and painted ( spray-painted , to be precise ) this couple T as the costume for his skit performance about environment. I like it alot... haha.

materials used : Nippon spray paint, Gold colour marker pen , Baleno T
Cost : about 7 dollar a piece.

method : Just make some cupboards with the shapes of the words cut out, spray paint on it. The words 'recycle' is coloured by hand ...

Well.. there'a big mistake made on the Shirts tho .. ahah. the word 'she' should be on the guy's shirt while 'he' on the girl's shirt. I sprayed the wrong shirt ! but meh, who cares.

Dear all,

Since the blog is so quiet, I thought I should write something here , even its irrelevant to atlantiz , lol .

Borrow this place to vent my emotions. I guarantee you this post will be boring.

I've been feeling quite stressed lately. The closer I get to graduation, the more I scare. It's already stressful enough to live in this small country, but it is even worse if you have no talent to pull you off from all these fierce, cut-throat competitions.

I never thought I'm stupid, in any standard, but I do feel I'm dumb during my time studying in NUS. In here, I'll always be inferior, and sadly, not only academically. There are people that can pull off spectacular academic results, and yet their social, inter-personal and leadership skills are so good that you will wonder how they can cope with studies and life. Worse still, these kind of people are almost everywhere in Singapore.

Coming to Singapore does make me realize, and ultimately admit to myself that I'm not those kind of elites . Not in studies. Not in life and management either. However, there's no reason I should just give-up and do nothing. I encourage myself to keep learning. Learn new stuffs, new thinkings, new ways of handling things, and try to find my own niche among the competition. This, is precisely where my pressure comes from. There are just too much things i need to learn.

I try to learn investment. I started by reading books and guides online. I force myself to look at the indexes everyday, and read those annual reports from companies that doesnt even make sense to me. I read news,finance report,analysis as much as i could. I set a target , to participate and to at least win something in the coming POEMS stock challenge. I even try to obtain a bloomberg certification.

I try to take-up Computer science minor. Surprisingly, I always get better grade for computing subjects in NUS. I thought I should capitalize on that. The subjects this semester, Computer networking and Database Management turn out to be much more harder than I can possible learn. Both subjects require projects, and both projects require extensive programming knowledge. I do not know how will I fare compared to those normal computing students. To make it worse, i have to learn a few other softwares completely from scratch all by myself in order to complete the database management project: SQL system particularly DB2 or Sybase , Web Server, Apache, PHP, and HTML. Damn how do I learn so much things in one sem ?

I try to work. Finding work is not easy now, especially when I dont have any skill at all to compete with other applicants. To fund myself for the student exchange next year to europe, I have to work. Inability to find a suitable work that wont jeopardize my studies is stressful by its own right.

I try to study harder. To continue doing honours year after I come back from poland, I gotta get good grades this semester. There are just too much stuffs I dont understand and have to learn by myself. Take for example, financial Mathematics 2 - all the probability theories and applications are so complex that I have to set aside some time and go library to find extra books to learn all that myself in order to catch up with the lecture. Hmph !

I did update my resume recently. I looked at it , and thought how a HR manager will react upon reading it. I guess they will throw my resume downright to the bin. I feeling so stressful of having not accomplished anything commendable that'll help me to find a career. Exactly how much I'm worth, I really dont know. I would guess I worth very, very little at the moment. I must definitely put in more effort to improve myself.

Of cause, there's a big part of me telling me that I'm going to be an entrepreneur one day later. That's my dream and my interest. I hope that I can come out with some brilliant ideas and I can fully commit myself to execute it and eventually make it a profitable business. I've been talking to friends all these while to keep generating new ideas and accessing their feasibilities. One day, a good,workable idea will come, i believe. Till that happens, I must keep improving myself in management skills, general knowledges and having positive attitude.

ahh... too much. Gotta go learn SQL now.

What an unexpected Atlantiz Gathering

What was only a lunch with shin liang turned out to be a fantastic long awaited atlantiz gathering ( altho the gathering abit short ).

It was a normal and boring day. Shin liang decided to do something to ease the boredom. I received his call in the morning and he wanted to go bowling with yen hong ( Malao Band king ! ) and soon jeck. I thought it would be quite boring but it's better than sit silly at home doing nothing.

So , shin liang picked me up at my house and we headed to soon jeck's house. Surprisingly , we saw Kai Yuan's little kancil parked outside his house just not far away from soon jeck's house. Liang ( with his usual qiong-ness ) stopped infront of kai yuan's house and called him. Yuan ( with his unusual qiong-ness ) changed his clothes immediately and followed us out for lunch and bowling.

Atlantiz members so far : 0 , 6 , 10 , soon jeck ( sorry man , i cant remember everyone's number )

On our way from Yuan's house to Plaza tasek to pick up Yen Hong, Yuan suddenly recalled that Weez might be at home. Thrilled, we made a call to him and found out he's indeed back in JB. After picking yen, we went to weez house.( I din expect to visit his house apart from annual bai nian ! how rare ! ) . He treated us with some funny taste drinks that was bought from Malacca.

Before we went to the famous Shui Tang Lu Laksa, liang with his usual qiong-ness again , suggested that we should go genting the next morning , and depart for KL that night. We made a detour to liang's office to see his mum. He managed to borrow his mum's car for the KL trip. ( How qiong ! and me, weez, and yuan actually agreed to go KL without much consideration ~! )

We had a good bowling session , chit chat , some catching up with each others , and some good laugh at the bowling stadium. (Weez came out first with score nearing 100 and liang 3rd place with one point less than me ) . SOon jeck's surgical-doctoral hands proved not suitable for sports like bowling.

On our way back , we decided to show yuan and weez peter's current working place. We then went to Sutera Mall to see our next atlantiz member. Peter was busy with his work when we arrived. He was teaching xiao mei mei how to play the super cool swaveboard. How sweet when I saw him holding the cute xiao mei mei's hand while she's learning to balance herself on the board. ( Maybe peter's preparing himself to be a daddy soon ? )

Atlantiz members so far :

Totally unexpected , two lao shu, both big and small appeared in sutera mall. There were there to visit peter as well. We were all surprised how coincident it was. So indeed everyone cares for each others in atlantiz!

Atlantiz members in the end : 0, 6 , 23 , 10 , soon jeck , 8 , 1 , xi yuan ( lol i forgot his number too ... is it 3 ? )

We grabbed the precious opportunity to take this precious photos down. Hey , its not that easy to have so much ppl together nowadays. Presenting to you :

Note : swaveboard - latest coolest sports in town, endorsed by atlantiz, only available in sutera mall 2nd floor ! Look for peter and quote Atlantiz to get a free try at the cool sports !

We all had a quick chat with each others and liang and lao Shun went to play archery. Saw Mr.tey inside and had a quick chat with him.

After that , yuan and jeck need to go back for a dinner , me and liang and weez went back to prepare for KL trip , fat mouse accompany his gf buy grocery , peter continue working , and xiao lao shu went back home alone ( lol ) .

That's about it lar . Majority of atlantiz members that day have decided that whoever isnt present at that day must be punished .. except those with valid reason , like in UK and work . Know who you are ~!

I dunno how to describe this feeling ... that you feel that you are so close to death .

I've experienced yet another scary experience in new zealand... less than 2 months since last accident.

I was in Queenstown for ski. ( tho I'm not going to elaborate more of the ski-ing experience, but I gotta tell you ski is hell lots of fun ! I took 2 beginner's lessons and i daresay I can ski quite abit already ! haha ) . Whatever , I took a coach bus that's suppose to deliver us to the ski field from the town and fetch us back at the end of the day. The accident happened on the way back from the ski field.

It was about 4.30pm . Temperature about freezing or below freezing point. Our coach was leaving the mountain and we are actually going downhill . It would normally take 40 minutes to descend from the top of the mountain where the ski field is, to the bottom of the mountain thru quite a steep road , with lots of sharp turnings. ( actually the speed limit for the corners are all about 25 to 35 km/h , imagine how sharp the turning is ) .

Since the way down is only one-lane with no passing, vehicles practically have to queue and follow the front car slowly. What happenned was , the car infront of us was braking continously for no reason. Our driver has been trying to slow down the bus by slowly braking. However, there's one instance where the car infront of us slowed down too much, our bus nearly hit it. In an effort to try to avoid crashing to the front car, our driver stepped on the brake as much as he could. As the road is frozen with ice ( i guess it's called black ice ) , our bus's rear wheels lost control and started to slide on the road's icy surface. Our driver counter-steered the bus and it slid to the right side of the road , towards the mountain ...

Right before that moment , I was actually dozing off on the bus. I was a bit tired after the whole day's fun at the ski field. I heard screamings from the other passengers on the bus. The next thing I know, I raised my head, I saw our bus missed the front car by inch, then our bus started sliding sideways ( not the fast sort, it happenned slowly ) . More screamings , and to our horror, , we actually realised that we are going to fall down the mountain. The bus sort of stopped and halted by the steel wires fence at the side , with the front tyre almost out of the road.

The front passenger stood up, shouted to the back of the bus so that everyone dont panic and stay still. At the moment, we dont know how long of the bus is actually hanging on the mountain. So all our concern was if the passengers at the back of the bus all rush to the front exit , the bus might fall . ( I was right at the middle of the bus ) . After a few seconds where the bus seems to have no more movement, the driver told us it is save to get down the bus.

The fence of steel wire has saved us all. We went down the bus, and the driver explained to us what had happened. Our bus blocked the whole road and whole mountain's ski-ers have to wait behind our bus. The driver called the ski-field and they came to tow the bus. We waited at the roadside for about one hour before the tow-er came. They accessed the damage of the bus and they confirmed that it is safe for us to board the bus again. ( well, frankly, I'm not very convinced at that time ). The driver reassured us and he drove extremely slow and got us down the mountain.

The moment when the bus is slidding towards the mountain, all I thought was how can I survive . I was thinking of holding onto something so that when the bus is turning, I wont be falling here and there. In addition, I was thinking of covering my head with my jacket so that I wont get hit by sharp things. Survivor instinct ! And , the thought of .. " Is this the end of my life " really occured to me.

Well, I hope the saying " da nan bu si, bi you hou fu" is true. Then I'll have 2 times of hou fu !

that's about all . the next day we actually drove to milford sound ... risking avalanche and driving on the icy roads with our own car. Thanks see hon for driving carefully ( it is very very very tiring to concentrate so much on driving on that road conditions )and got us in and out of the place safely !

Hello atlantiz and all... i just back from my trip to Russia and Finland...hm... I am lucky to have such nice chance to be there... Ivan said i snatch my parents' chance to go there *&^%$#@! grrhhhhh... But i really thanks them for the chance... i love u pa ma... cos u all give me wat i love~~~TrAvEL...

Ok... basically my travel plan is something like this : Kursk-->Moscow-->St.peterburg-->Finland-->then St.peterburg again-->home sweet home(not really)...

tiring afternoon... sis and i decided cook Big Bon~ kind of instant noodles(but it is big!) + some cheery + apricot + and peach~~~ steal bite 2 mouth of the nugget before photo... to0o0o0o hungry...

this is also some of russian traditional food... the dark bread taste bit sour sour... the soup name saauliangkka(mixture of pig organ)... it taste good out of my expectation... lol... the other two i forgot their name de la....

yayaya... this is the soup i mean nice taste one... hmhm... the white thingy just mayonise...

ooohooo... this is something much more expensive and taste really good... squid ink pasta... the combination of cheese and lemon...kupang and squid... shhshshrrururpppp...

this is another cheezy chickenchop rice... it taste really nice at the first mouth... but for me who dun like cheese tat much...more than half plate i will feel bit geli geli~~

hmhm... sis + sis friend and i walk about a 1km disance to reach a very peaceful lake... this flower attract me much~~~ look like bird nest~~ haha..

this flowers back ground got bit fake... lol... hmhm... look at the 10.00pm skyline.... i love that place more whenever i breath...is cold...relax...peaceful...

29 Climbed Mt Kinabalu

Since like Form 3, after we climbed Gunung Ledang, and after a speech by our dear Mr. Paul Juby, in the kindergarten at Holy Light Church, we've set our target to conquer:

Mount Kinabalu, Sabah

Man, I waited quite long...

I was in Sabah for around 6 days. Went to a few islands for snorkeling - Pulau Manukan (bigger and more tourist), Pulau Sapi (my favourite one, as it's smaller, but very beautiful), and Pulau Mamutik.

You don't find much clear deep blue sea water like that in Peninsular Malaysia

We went to a place called Poring, where they had this hot spring

And had white water rafting (beginer level though... Next time I'll go for the challenging one)

Overall, Sabah is a really good place to tour. It's nature so well preserved, never again in Malaysia. Check it out guys!

The day my final exam paper finish~ i straight go play snooker wif gan wei pao the most boring moon guy~~saw the man u flag and u can see how holy am i for being fans of Man U... Anyone say me Newcastle again and u try~

Then the next day i go bukit tinggi wif my lovely coursemates~ o m g... because i came late and wanna handsome bit... i walk up the hill road at bkt tinggi bout 3.5 km to find my friend... cool... it tooks me 40 mins~ my comments for Bkt tinggi:Is not a bad place to go but is a place that surely suck ur pocket money... The cheapest meal we found was hokkien mee cost RM18...
Advice:prepare ur own meal if u dont wanna queeze ur wallet...

Han stay over night at Johor Specialist for 5days...we take turn to accompany her... let her play game... walk up and down of the hospital... watch movie and TV... jokes...

Well, This is my top event when holiday... 2days 1 night melaka trip wif hsia... wif my sis law car viva and my bro's nevigator... we manage to go smoothly from one place to another... we reach there bout 5pm and out for dinner.. the pic are out 1st stop to eat... Melaka most famous Satay Celup Shop CAPITOL satay celup... i cant photo nicely since my hands full wif all the foods...SEE THAT... the Boss add peanut and secret meat into the satay sauce... the fragrant dominate my mouth... i will give this Capitol Satay Celup 8 stars out of 10... 1 minus for too long cue and the other one minus for the price is slightly higher then other satay house in melaka (accrording to Regi)... but it real nice...

This things this huge prawn i must give clap for the shop... it will automatically gv us this for normal price RM1.50 after we eat for few things... it is real nice juicy fat holy prawn...

The chiken Rice ball... Well... U must try or else u cant say u been to melaka... it is good... it is simple... The sesame oil smell inside the chicken when u chew the meat~~ simply nice~

Waliu... this is another one own my heart... the durian cendol... not too durian... not too sweet... not too milky... i will say 9 stars out of 10... 1 mark minus for too delicious and one bowl not enough....Tan Kim Hock... emem... One of my reason here is to buy the famous Gula Melaka... is a must go place for tourist if u wish to buy something for ur loving one...Well... this shop i will highly recommended for u all... S&S ... is a mid night dessert house... is near SRJKC PING MING melaka... the overall ice i will give 8 out of 10 stars...see... Gula Melaka again...Funny shit incident... got one fat lady showing of her thousand holes panty behind me... the ppl who cant stop laughing is my girlfriend wong yen hsia...

We both got our new slipper for A famosa water World.... but bit disappointed... i will just give 3 out of 10 stars for A famosa water world... hmhm...

It was raining. The weather was stormy.

The car was rented, and luckily , on a full insur

ance protection.

The car was a manual transmission car , while the driver is a auto-idiot who barely drives a manual car.

It was mountain road, the corners rivals the most treacherous turnings in Genting highland. And there was this mysterious signboard ...

Wondering what it is. It is not snowing , so the problem comes down to what the heck is "grit"

Well , this is grit :

Grit is the sand they put on the mountain roads to increase grip of your vehicle in the case of snowing.

So what does it matters to the driver ?

The driver was driving at the speed of 60 KMPH , which is below the warning signpost's 65KMPH before the turn. The car hit a small stone. It jumped a little , and moved outward towards the right lane , where the car would be coming in the opposite direction. The driver panicked and steered the car to the left. The car drifted on the grit, lost control, and it crashed to the hillside at the left. The car went uphill, then turned over , and landed on its side.

The first thing the driver said was to tell the other passenger to get off from the car, coz he thought the car is going to explode, with its upside down position. He found the seatbelt, he unbuckled it, and he stands up. He frantically search for the key and off the engine immediately, thinking that a live engine will ignite.

Then a person appeared on the side window .. the driver of the car infront has pulled over and came to help. He tried to open the door of the car.

Both the driver and the passenger got out of the car and were driven by the kind passerby to a nearby town. Then they followed the local towing company's uncle back to the accident site to tow the car back.

On the way, the towing guy said accident offten occurs there. And 2 days ago some couple just had their car rolled down the hill ( which appears to be on the RIGHT side of where the accident happenned , lucky oo)

The driver and the passenger were no hurted at all ... the car is damaged , with the front windshield shattered. Thank god !

P/S : The idiot driver is me ~

One Day Trip From JB to Endau Rompin

This is the scene before we reach the Endau Rompin Park....Really nice Finally we reach the place le....BUT Y is Taman Negeri NOT Taman NEGARA de???

We found that we hv go wrong place and cheat by the sign board along the road n there is nothing inside here....n need pay RM5 entrance fee....This is only the State Park which is authorised by State Gov. The National Park which is far far away from this n only reachable with 4WD car. But at last luckily we found this water fall, if not really waste the petrol n also entrance fee lo

Actually along the way of Mersing to Pahang there are a lot a lot of nice n non polluted beach....I have go to several of that n all the place are very very nice...Atlantiz can consider hv our annual gathering there also...

This is the ikan bakar beside Kuantan River. Haha, forget to take picture before the meal. Is a very nice dinner. 2 ppl only eat le RM30 ++..very worthy..

This is a rare opportunity, because their group got 3 more empty places... I can't describe how hard it is to organize an expedition trip to climb Mount Kinabalu (ask banana ong lo...).

A lil catching up with a few good friends... though its quite a pity that others can't make it... Anyway, it was a pretty awesome time together as most of us haven't seen each other for some time...

We went for the movie - X-man which was great followed by dinner at old market near Taman Sentosa, I suppose... not too sure either... The funny thing was, the place for dinner was suggested by a most unlikely person which was ABSENT! funny ain't it? XD
Nevertheless, we still went there... lol...

I fell in love with Backpacking ever since I came back from United States last year. Since then, I've been planning to go backpack in other countries. It's a natural choice to choose Vietnam and Cambodia since these 2 destinations are more affordable and more suitable for beginners like us ( well, probably not , i realized after the trip ). So , a gang of 8, including 3 Atlantiz members and 5 of my friends embarked on this eventful journey.

I'm not going to write much , instead I'll just show some (perhaps alot) photos and adding some comments here n there where appropriate . If you got any question about the backpacking experience (cost, planning, place of interests etc ), please leave a comment here, I'll try my best to answer.

A very warm and kind Auntie, she made us some super-delicious baguet( french bread , stuffed with some char siew + vegetables ). We met here while we were strolling around Hanoi's old street looking for cheap lunch. She's our savior while we thought all hope's lost.

A very authentic Vietnam morning market. We found that most places that are accessible to the tourists becoming more touristy and have already evolved to suit the needs of the tourists. We were lucky to find this secluded section of the old streets and experienced some really unique bargaining with local vietnamese.

Ong cheekily hides behind this camera-shy auntie. So cute this photo.

We were extremely interested in local delicacies .. Here you see is a typical scenario where we bargain for the food. Bargaining is an important factor in buying food... or you'll end up broke after just a few meals.

This is an interesting picture. In vietnam, people like to sit down by the roadside and start eating. The benches are extremely small and definitely unfit for the westerners. It was a lot of fun eating out vietnamese style in Hanoi. Tho the hygiene of the food is highly questioned.

There are the cables that can be found anywhere in Big cities in Vietnam. Quite impressive eh ? I wonder how the technician figure out which cable's faulty when doing maintainance.

If you have the chance to visit Hanoi , look for this auntie. She sells the best Pho( beef noodles ) in Vietnam. I guarantee that.

Here , notice the sahkat (long live RO !) wore by the locals. Almost everyone wears a hat like that. And the way they carry stuffs around , they'll just choose to sit anywhere they like and start doing business at as early as 4-5 a.m. .

Vietnamese ren shen guo ... I remember asking the lady to cut the fruit for us so that we can taste it on the spot. Yummy ~

Ong took this photo. What's he thinking ? He wanna bring out the " laid back" lifestyle in Vietnam ? Haha. A cute photo too.

I dont know why i included this picture, but I thought this's quite cute...

Gunung Stong Trip

Can't remember when was the last time I did a post, all I know its probably months ago..

Anyway, I would like to share with y'all about my trip to Gunung Stong in Kelantan during my recess. That place is famous for its magnificent waterfall and it was truly amazing to see waterfall with more 50 meters in front of your own eye...

Kinda lazy to write a long essay, so I'll just let the picture speak for themselves...

Jumping off a 2 storey high rock... was exhilarating... feeling the downward G gives you the adrenaline rush...

This is the reason why many people joined this trip.. for an exciting slide off the waterfall.. and thats the only way up.. by rope.. The slide is about 10 meters high.. and its really really awesome..

I think all of you will be very very surprise that I will post up a thing here. Atlantiz blog already few years old le, but I as a Atlantiz's member seem like never contribute to this blog. This is the 1st time I post a things here, so if go any mistake pls dun laugh at me oo.

Just for u all information, in this sem, I have join UTM's Equestrian Club. Every time saw people ride on horse seem like very handsome, and at one time, I saw a senior riding a horse to the highest place in UTM which is right at the top of a hill. that time i m with Peter, both of us stun by that guy, really really ba bei and handsome lo can ride horse up a hill as we only can run up there, so i make up a decision to join that club once i have the chance.

As u all seem in the photo, this is the 1st time i ride on the horse. That really a lot a lot of things need to be learn when riding a horse especially the timing. I have to follow the timing of the horse with stand sit stand sit.....continuously....that really energy consuming....tired....if u miss the timing, that will be very painful to.....luckily i didn't get hurt...haha....

Only pay RM75, I can have the chance to ride a horse for one sem I think is quite reasonable ba, I really looking forward it. Hopefully I can learn well there and one there ride the horse up to the hill....

Kota Tinggi Campsite 一日游

It is December again. I remember the time we used to have annual BB camping during this period. Since we are not in BB anymore and we dont have the time to join the camp anyway , we ,4 corporals decided to Kota Tinggi Campsite ourselves.

well , i dunno why i didnt take peter's photo down ... hehe.Kota tinggi is actually 50 Kms away from our place.. so it only took us about 1 hour to reach the campsite.

Well , few years never visit this place already . It has not changed much , except for the new concrete bridge now connecting the road and the campsite. I remember we used to hold our luggage over our head and walk across the river by stepping on the sand bags they place in the river. Then few years later they built a new wooden bridge. It was destroyed during the flood in kota tinggi and now this concrete bridge is what we see today ... It was raining for the whole morning before we went there and so the river is running fast and yellow in colour .

We were very excited to visit this place again . We went around the campsite and we decided to take a little walk into the jungle . We walk a brief 15 minutes into the jungle and fought our way thru dense jungle and muds .

We decided to cross the river and go for a small 'beach' at the middle of the river . Unfortunately , rain started pouring down and we are afraid that flash flood might occur .. so instead of walk back to the campsite via the river , we went back using the route where we came.

In respond to ong's last comment , I suggest this year we eat traditional big family gathering food (like what ong has suggested~) !

(anyway , if we have places to go , like what liang suggested , eg. kukop , port dickson , some villa , or anywhere , then we can forget about this dinner liao )

My friend recently introduce me this kind of wine , call "Late harvest " means, they process the grapes only after the grape nearly dried up , so the sweetness is more concentrated ...Not bad wor is sweet wine .quite special .

I actually think of eating this for dinner , or maybe the breakfast for 1.1.2009?

For some, this event is no more than a change of a calendar. For us, Atlantiz, the New Year symbolizes an annual gathering.

for the comming december, is a big event for 3 ppl in atlantiz~ wow...

first of all... the 3 ppl are CHEW~the blog master aka 0, then follow by YUAN aka tay kai Ma aka 6 and finally is me aka 9!3 ppl from atlantiz are the lucky one choosen by all mighthy god for the adventure to the north on 9th of december to 25th of december(the great christmas)!!!
Meng guan, this trip was just a rough plan when the last BBQ. Chew say his friend from NUS was planning a backpack trip to cambodia and vietnam.Then just ask whoever interest to join for the trip. However, oni 3 of us can make it. Thats y i say this is a great chance for 3 of us from the god.a haha~by the way, i got one more chance to travel again in this comming 25th november to thailand~this is a trip wif 34 IEM YES members and students rep trip... god bless these one week trip ...

hey, i bought my backpack de lo~ queenway shopping centre.$85. expensive? it is 60 liter ,and 15 more liter to extend if want.one year warranty. then there is a small haversack which can take out one... the shopkeeper tell me this is a twin wat wat backpack lo~ dont know... i spend 5 hours in the shopping centre, then oni i decide to but that.wow...okok?
