This blog has been quite inactive lately. It feels pretty disappointing as this suppose to be the site where we, as friends share. A place to reminiscence the good old time as we don't have the privilege to meet up 'physically' that often. As we move on with our own life, its always nice to have an avenue to let one another know about our progress in each path of life...

What a Night! : ~~~ehhhhiii...bong~~

Friday, 23 of may... something sad and something funny happen... not a big thing and not a small thing for atlantiz member... there is some collision between 1 and 7...lol... not big collision but not small collision too... i just feel bit funny and pity... a haha... u huhu...

Wat happened?? lol... On friday... Shinn Liang bring us to a new place to eat seafood... Pasir Gudang...wow... the highlight for tat day not the very delicious cuisine but this collision!!! we meet an accident...small mouse aka keeper aka 1 VS a boey aka captain aka 7... lol...

Sad for a boey who so damn bad luck for the stupid van infront... sad for small mouse who keep to close distance when follow a boey car... sad for small mouse for such a damn small accident but spoilt the damn expensive "tangki" of his sislaw car... sad for a boey who being bang wif his uncle new Avanza...

Funny for a boey who so niao ji dont know wat to say after the crash cos just very minor spoilage...he just show very serious face... funny for small mouse who even bad luck for RM 300 for a second handed tangki...he lagi serious and smelly face... funny for me,my 4,peter,peter 4,weekang,liang, and soonseng dont know wat to say...

USA food ~!

I tried as many food as I could here in US. There are few notable difference between their meal and our meal ...

1st . They dun eat rice. Every meal there'll be potato ... be it hash brown ( their hash brown is just potato cut into pieces and deep fried it ) , or mashed potato ( they mash the potato including the skins ! ) .

2nd. Every meal you can see cheese. I only know 4 cheese so far : american cheese, chedar , mozarella , ahh .. one more forget its name.

3rd. They dun have chili sauce here ! but they do have lots of other sauces .

4th . Their meals are served in such a big portion !

Breakfast : Grilled chicken steak with hash brown , with omelet+cheese , and english muffin - USD 2.40 . The mushroom sauce are damn lot better than in singapore or msia. Every morning when ordering breakfast we have to cracked our head .. coz we have to decide what bread to take ( white toast , whole wheat , muffins , and whatever else.. i dunno what is it call lar .. but it is harder bread , another kind of bread got spice in it ..) . Then we have to choose what type of cheese to go inside the omelet ...

Lunch : hamburger. Beef burger with local fresh tomato and pickles and veges and onion rings. The spring onion here are seriously choking... the feeling is just like eating wasabi . This burger cost USD 1.50 .



This is breakfast again .. white toast , omelete with mozarella cheese , the filling inside the omelete is fresh tomato , mushroom ( very tasty mushroom ) and ham . Ham is not bad , but sometime i prefer the combination of mushroom+tomato+bacon. This cost USD 2.40 .

We got free meal coupon from our employer during our orientation( we get pay for attending orientation too ~ ) . We get to choose entree ( main dish) , salad , beverage + dessert in higher level restaurant in grandcanyon . We simply picked the most expensive entree .. too bad we can only choose plain salad( there are salads with hams and prawns and those stuffs . The photo here shown is turkey,.normally cost 9.25USD. Not bad lar this turkey .. i dun really like it but my friend love it.

what's shown in the middle is mushroom soup. Now only I now what is "creamy" meant by kai yuan. Its really really creamy . It tastes superb. Cost USD 1.50 . The 2 drinks shown beside are hot choco and french vanilla. French vanilla taste like .. melted vanila ice cream. Very delicious.

The last here .. grilled salmon + cheese macarroni .. or whatever it's called ... It cost a fucking 9.50 USD (i used the free coupon for this tho) . My friend said it is nice , but i thought it just taste like sardine ... cheap mouth i got .. lol .

I actually tried many other stuffs .. like roast beef ( which is really nice ) , ice cream called dunno what ( SUPER NICE ) .. and many more. But i didn't take the photo of it down ...I think i wont want to eat western food when go back to msia or singapore ! I want to eat fried rice so much now .. T_T

SunSet tour ... 15 may.

Today I went for a ranger guided sunset tour . It is USD 20 for normal guest , but as employee of Xanterra , We get it for free. In fact, I have free access to every ranger guided program available in Grand Canyon. We get 50% cut in restaurant , 20% in retail and fine dining ... and many more. We even get to take air tour at the price of USD16 . there are many many other benefits (Free IMAX theather ticket etc etc).. must try it out during this 2 months period here.

Well , today we hike with ranger , and the experience is different. The ranger told us alot about grandcanyon. We learned quite alot from the ranger ... and interact with him . It was a great tour.

See the pine forest Far far behind ? Its the largest pine forest in north america. If you can see .. on the right there's a village .. that's where i work and live at.

there are many layers in the canyon. The colour was caused by different climate , different physcial condition in different ages of time. The canyon is about 1.5 KM down ... the place we standing is 2000 m above sea level. According to the ranger , the place we stand was seabed few hundred million years ago ... that means we would be in sea if we were back in few hundred million years ago. We get to see some fossils on the ground too .. according to him , it was some sea worm hide in seabed .. but because of sudden geographical change , the worm was trapped in the seabed and become fossil like what we see today.

If you really strain your eye .. you could see the trail hiking down to the bottom ... it is some 9 miles ( about 14 KM) 's hike . Its awesome to hear the history of the trail and the significant of hiking down. at the bottom of the canyon where the calorado river flows , the rock and soil is almost 2.2 billion years old . 2.2 billion .. if we reach there .. it means that we were 40% back in time when earth was born. Earth is about 5.6 billion years old. Every 200 step go down will bring us back 200 million years . Just 2 steps hiking up will means 2000 years of geological change . ( means the rock 's age ... changed 2000 years.) 2 steps ... 2 steps down means the birth of christianity .. few more steps back means the birth of civilization ... Amazing.

the point there in the middle .. its the plateau point i talked about before. the hardest trail to hike in Grand canyon . If you look at the furthest canyon ... the far far far end on the other side .. it is the north rim. I am standing on south rim , watching to the direction of north .. and that's north rim there. The distance that bird flies directly from my point to the other point is about 10 miles( 15 KM ) . If hike till plataeu point .. we can hike down from south rim , to the river , and hike up to north rim .. it is about 30-40 KM one trip .. The ranger said he take 2 days to do it ~!

Hiking the Grand Canyon 14th May 2008

3rd day in Grand Canyon. We decided to pick one easiest hiking trail into the Canyon . For your info , The place I am at now is called the rim , it is 2000 meter above sea level. The canyon goes as deep as 1.5 km and more to the bottom from the rim. The legendary Colorado river runs beneath it. Our target is to conquer the deadly Plateau trail that leads to the bottom of the canyon (and thus the river) . There are plenty helpful information here to helps us plan our hiking , including difficulty recommendations , hiking tips and all. Grand Canyon is very special to hike because the hard part only comes after hiker descended ... hiker hikes downards first and then only come back upwards. This makes the hiking very dangerous as you cannot estimate how far can you body take it when you hike down. The extreme temperatures in the half desert climate in grand canyon , <20> 35 in the canyon also makes overheating , overexchaustion , hypothermia and hyperthermia the common killer to the unprepared hikers. Each summer day there are more than 60 hikers are rescued from the canyon.

After much considerations and planning (well , for mere 20 minutes only) , we decided to descend using South Kaibab trail ( one of the four trail available in GrandCanyon) . The difficulty level indicated is "difficult" and recommended time is " 4 to 6 hours" . We bought some sandwichs and alot of water together with us. The trail only leads us to 1/4 down to the bottom. about 300 meter change in elevation .

Hiking the trail is VERY rewarding. I dont think there are other place on earth that will be more beautiful , more immense , more grand than the canyon. We get hike down very huge rocks , and get to see fantastic view. One special thing about hiking in grand canyon is that ... every single step you take , the view is going to change ... the colour of the canyon , the angle of your viewpoint and the overall impression the canyon gave.... It is not describable using photographs or videos ... that beauty , surpass everything ...

let the photos do the talking now. remember , photos will NEVER do justice to the beauty of grandCanyon . I have videos .. lots of it .. but now upload quite slow .

!The hiking trails . Its zig zagged all the way down. One good thing to hike in USA is ... people are way too friendly. Every hikers will say"how are you" or chat awhile when pass by. I like this culture.stunned by the view.

Stunning view .... one more step behind and we are dead ~! i dunno how long we'll need to fall before we touch the bottom of the canyon ?Every other things seem so small ... The power of nature . I take good photos huh ? Notice the layered structure of the canyon back there ? Very amazing.

Even the reporter in TV(In States) were surprised by the sudden snow in Summer, in grand Canyon. I am really lucky to see this ! Well , it was very very cold ,and it demoralized our spirit in lurking around to see see look look. Too cold. I wore 4 layers of clothes , without glove and hat. VERY COLD. The snow kinda melted in the late afternoon.

12th May - diary

Yooohoo . now is 5 am in the morning. It started snowing !!! Snow in summer time , really awesome ! 30 minutes more we gotta go out to see the sun rise at about 5.30 ...

Yesterday was quite a relaxed day. We traveled around flagstaff town in the morning. Words cannot describe how much i love this small town ... the streets , the buildings , makes me feels like I am in england somehow. Red brick wall , very unique and stylish shops , old church , and the overall environment here.The sound of passing by trains, the breeze, the snowy mountains at the background , It makes people want to live here. The air is so welcoming , and the people in America are so friendly ! They can chat with us like in any situation , and welcome us whenever they can !

Well , we did visit some local shopping malls and tried a mexico fastfood called "Taco bell" . Well , i dun really liked the taste but meh , its something i never tried before. We went back to our lovely hostel after that and we made friends with someone from Singapore . She travelled on her own after her exchange in Canada finished. We met another guy from South Africa. He has been traveling in North America for 11 months already. I really starts to like backpack travelling ... It is soooooo easy to make friends .(Well , all we did is just sit down together for breakfast and we started chating ~) .

We left this lovely small town for Grand Canyon. I haven see the whole picture of Grand Canyon yet. We arrived at about 5 pm and we haven got a chance to look around. Grand Canyon got more trees than I imagined. Many trees indeed. I met many people in the employees dorm. Most of them are from Amerika . Well , they smoke , drink beer almost ALL the time. Its quite dangerous here but I hopethings will get better if we befriend with them more. (I happend to see them use cloth hanger to break-in into the control room of the dorm to open the WiFi connection ! So scary. Well , apart from that , I must say that they are very friendly and funny people.

That's about all today ... i starts to feel the american culture more and more and like it more and more. Well , going to see the snow and sunrise now ~ hope tomorrow will be better ~

This is a very rough diary i wrote during my journey on bus. I will try to upload if possible ! Photos .. hmm .. wait bah .

11th May

What an amazing race ! It has been 5 months since we last decided to come to WaT USA and now we are really in the land of dreams itself. I am typing this on a bus to a small town named flagstaff ,about 2 am in the morning. Although I think I am already in USA for more than 10 hours now, I still got the feeling of" OMG am i In US ?" ...
What a day and what an experience ... We flied from singapore since 1 oclock afternoon in 11th may to Taipei ,reach Taipei at night , walked a very brief 10 minutes for our transit flight , and then continue our journey to LA. We again flying from night to morning across Pacific Ocean and go back in time to 11th May's morning.To me now taking plane really doesnt differs much from taking bus anymore.
Good thing to note though , EVA airline's services far surpassed my expectation. I got good food served , good entertainment and good air stewardess to service for me. The food was so much better than those I ate on FInair last time round , we were occasionally served Taiwan's delicacies like taiwan MuaChi and Taiwan's yogurt. The entertainment was good enough to keep us occupied during the 15 hours journey... We had each one LCD touchscreen infront of our seat and we get to choose wide array of entertainments. We can watch movies (chinese movies like super dunk from jay chou , warlords ,hollywood blockbusters like jumpers , bucket list and rambo.) , Taiwan variety shows (kang xi lai le ,super IDol) and other travel shows by nationalgeographic channel. Apart from that , we have access to thousands of songs from taiwan artist and world artists . To top these all up ,the taiwaniese air stewardess are really cute and pretty , i admit some already got some ages but others really looks fabulous . Omg i cant forget her angelic smile !
Its not a good thing being a Malaysian for at least this once. Me and my friends were stucked at LA's custom for more than 3 hours.Other friends from singapore and Taiwan who came with us got their cleareance in blinks of eye but we were leaded to another waiting area for additional interviews and registration. We were placed in a holding area with some other people like indonesians and i think ( all other islamic countries) to wait for individual interview. We were shocked to know that most of them already waited inside the holding area for more than 4 hours already. Some looked pissed off and some looked sad. Its not a very good news for us since we got a plane to catch in 4 hours time by the time we landed at LA. Well , i never been treated like a criminal before , untill today. We were so anxious and hopeless , my friend and I went up to the officer and asked him for fast interview or perhaps let us re-schedule our flight so that we wont waste too much money. We were clearly denied any connection to the outside ,no phone calls and cannot move away from the holding area. Somemore , there's one police came and shouted at the crowd in the holding area with very bad manner ... he said " Sit down ! I am asking you nicely . My name is blah , you can complain me if you want !" Wow . Luckily our turn of interview came earlier than people who waited inside the holding area. The process took about 30 minutes , all our personal details taken , photos , fingerprints , background , everything. I think they really cautious on people from islamic countries.
It was half and hour before our flight from LA to Phoenix depart after we got thru the custom. We got the taste of playing amazing race game as we did so many things at once in that period. We took our luggages , ask officers around for directions , ran from terminal 1 to terminal 3 (imagine running from SMKTTA to plaza tasek in 5 minutes with all the luggages and 17C.) , foung ticketing counter , check-in our luggages , and board the plane. SOmemore in the process of claiming our ticket, my airticket was not registered in their machine. End up they let me sit in an empty seat that's very far away from my friends.
We flied for another 2 hours before we reach beautiful phoneix city. The night city as seen from the plane was astoudingly beautiful. We booked vans to bus stations and boarded the bus that will bring us to Flagstaff city.
Tomorrow morning, we will have to settle our social security card and catch another bus to grand canyon. Hope everything is okay !!
What a long day... I think today lasted more than 24 hours for us.

The second week of May... The day of every MUM ...Happy MOTHER'S day...

Yesterday... i have ask some thing about my mum and try hard to dig back all her old photo... and wif this blog... i want to introduce my WOMEN to everyone... I want to introduce her proudly...like jay Chow...write her mum a song... his mum named 叶惠美 and so wat... My mum named 陈白锦。。。lol... No la... i just want to tell that everyone got his or her greatest mother... haha...

Ok... My mum name Tan Aik Kin...She comes from a intermediated family...not too poor not too wealthy...She is the 3rd in his Family of Tan...2 elder brother and 3 younger brother... she is the only gal among her siblings... Her hometown is some place called 'o siam'(in hokien),Sabak Bernam, i think some place in Perak ... he... Her primary school is SRJK(c) Cheong Hua...She is quite a star in school... Cos her grandpa(my grand grandpa) is 校董...and she is quite a good student... basketball...ping pong representative...lol.... she always tell me that as if the first time ,infact i already can remember all de... haha...(i always like tat also...repeat some story for the same person)... I think she end her education after form 3...Well, this is her childhood...

Then, she turns to become MISS KILANG... Then, she stay at JB and go singapore to find jobs... Then i think she stay quite near wif my dad and they start to knew each other... Their love story begins to blossom and married at the age of 20(mum) and dad(22)... Then, they have their first child... a female...but sad case here... my eldest sis passed away at the second month due to 黄胆病... i think tat is very pain for a mother and this is the first difficulty from god to my mum... we just got only photo of my eldest sis... salute to womens who suffer for 9 months for sake of bring naughty children to this world...Salute~~~

Well...after 2 years,1979...mum 22 years old... my elder bro come to this world... according to my mum... she bicycle to hospital to delivery my brother one...lol... sounds funny... but it really again let me applause for my mum...wow... so strong...superwomen+ wonderwomen not enough to defeat my mum...After 4 year...1983...mum 26... my sis come out lo~~at ban3 nan2...my sis was a fat fat baby... like tayar gal...and the biggest headache for my mum of my sis was she always steal drink or eat other people medicine... o my god...maybe those medicine make her become interest in medical and become doctor now...lol...lastly... comes to the most charming... cutest... smart... obedience...handsome and capable --- ong da pek!!!

i can remember that our house was so so poor when my childhood... at that time... 20 years before... my　Tun Aminah Flat have to squeez 3 family...my dad alone have to earn money to feed 8 to 9 ppl... money always make ppl sensitive... I have see lot of case of mum and dad quarrel cos of money... and i admit tat dad will 头风 bit more...Sometime very very bad words(we steal listen through the door gaps) and i can see how my mum slowly swallow all my dad fire...then my mum sometimes will by pass the fire to us also... then we kena at last pulak... lol... but mum always apologize to us after doing something she feel not right...is not easy to say sorry to someone who lower than u huh... i learned something from my mum... 　

On 1997, whole world economy facing scary disaster cos by 索罗斯...and my dad had lst his job in singapore... our family again facing prob again cos my parent have to feed 3 children which primary 4(me) and form 2(sis) and my bro who just start to work... my mum been force by fade to work wif my aunt at sing to earn some money... she never work for so long and she so willing to react wifout any complain for bro sis and me...every morning 7 she will go out... night 12 or 1 she will back... for who she did it?? again bro sis and me...superwomen+ wonderwomen+ spiderwomen can not defeat my mum...

Nearly 8 year before... my dad jobless for half year...my family again drop to very poor status... again quarrel scene everyday in my house again... There is too little money from my mum alone...So bad till i can remember my dad scold mum wif XXX words and ask my mum go die on 4th day of chinese new year...sob sob...but i dont blame my dad... i know he pressure much too... Then... my mum decide to change jobs... for money sake... then my 二舅 decide to leave my mum his mee hun kuey stall and teach her how to cook that... Initially, my dad disagree my mum go to sell that... he say it wont make money and need to see ppl face... My dad still finding his way for jobs but keep failling...wow... Things change become smoother by god's hand... from RM100++ per day selling...now become RM1000++ selling... it was just my mum's determination + independent ... maybe is characteristic of malaysia independent gal...Again, not easy for a woman to come out and fight for money wif a blur future...yet own husband not giving support and yet selling mee hun kuey...i think i wont forget the first few night of my mum's selling...the lowest is RM 92 ... my mum calling me in the rain and tell me bout that...She had overcome it !!! thanks god...

But... now mum mum need to suffer for no time to rest... Lets see... she work from 5 pm out here to 2 am back... she preparing next day vege... tis tat plus wash up need 2 hour and means 4 am only sleep... she just sleep 4 to 5 hour cos next day 8 or 9 need to go pasar to buy ingredient also(fishball... meatball...vege...etc)...back bout 12 and started to prepare minced meat... chili... xiang gu... sometime wash clothes...fold clothes...pay water electric bill... sweep...mop...tidy place that a han had mess up...And cook a meal for our dinner...wow... A 50 years old woman had to do all that...and this circulation will only stop when her youngest child ONG CHIN HORNG finish his study... UHUUUU~~MUMMY~~yet not a good result student...lol...superwomen+ wonderwomen+ spiderwomen+white hair 魔女 cant defeat my mum...

Lastly, i want to thanks god... i have both very very good father and mother... They work whole life for bro sis and me... They seldom say that but we can feel... They doing 10 times harder than wat i can see... they suffer health without telling but i will complain not enough money to buy new bag...They earn i spent...They squeezing sweat ...health...age... energy ... for me to study for a poor result...haiz... bad me bad me... I want to Thank really lot... really lot... lot lot... lol...

Lastly, I greet all the mum happy mothers day....lets make everyday happy mother day huh... lets be obedience kid huh...Remember a small company will make our greatest mum happy huh... love ya... and 辛苦了!!!

Hi all ...
Just want to take this opportunity to thank all who know me , who helped me in every single possible ways , who stand-by me thru the tough times , and those who helped my mother . Also , I must thank the nurses and doctors who took cares of my father and walked him thru the trainsition of life easily.

I want to thank all my friends : singapore friends and brothers and my brothers back at Malaysia , NUS staffs , TTSH staffs ,my uncle who willingly pay for the medical expenses and funeral , my mother's friends who stood by her even untill now , my god-sister , ... too many people. I dun want to name any of you , because all of you are equally important to me , and I am equally thankful and grateful to all of you. The love I felt from all of you is indescribable , I may not show it on my face , but i just want you to know i am deeply touched and deeply appreatiate for everything you all done to me. To all again ,Thank you .

This SUnday i will fly to USA. 11th may. It has been exactly one month that my father passed away , and that's mother's day at that day. How much would it mean for me huh ?

Well , I am doing fine now . Altho i miss my father more and more now. His words , his smile and his laugh. I don't know why I am feeling sadder as day goes by, haha. Maybe , it gets more "real" as day passes by .. My mother is more tougher than I do. I don't know since when she's the one telling me to look at the bright side . Her life goes back to usual now , she 's doing fine in her business. I really admire her , admire them . She's really a strong women. Everytime i put myself in her shoes and think of it ... i am really sad of it . But she seems like accepting it more readily than i'm able to. I really amazed how much my parents love each other. I feel so sad when my mother said now she 'll still talk to my father in the house everyday ...She said she really used to talk with my father everyday... God is really unfair to them huh ? People quarrel and divorced but my parents just cant stay together even tho they love each other that much.

I dunno if dreams are true. Up untill now I only dreamt of my father once , when i was in my house in JB.The dream is so real , that i remember every details of it. I saw him sitting infront of my house gate , looking infront. I walked up to him and see him in the face... He smiled , and I started crying. With a wider smile , he hold out his hand and hand me a tissue. I didn't take it because that's the time i wake up. I wish dream is really real because he seems so peaceful with the smile , all looks like he's put everything down and rest in peace ... I think he dun want me to feel sad anymore .

My mum keep saying , well , this is life , must get on with it. Yep... We must get on with it. Like I said , both my mum and me are doing fine. Thanks again everyone ... I really hope i can thank each and everyone of you in person .


Well , that's it , and i think we must move on ! This blog has been inactive for quite a long time already , hey boys get the posts rolling in !
